Truce Between Palestinians With, Without Neckties by mattsteinglass

In case you’re ever confused about American policy in the Mideast, just remember this simple rule: we back the Muslims who wear ties against the Muslims who don’t wear ties. Take the following photo, for example:

Fatah’s Abbas, Hamas’s Haniyeh Shake Hands

We back Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas (left), of Fatah, against Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh (right), of Hamas, and Hamas political leader Khaled Meshaal (center). The good news today is that the pro- and anti-necktie Palestinian factions, Fatah and Hamas, who had been fighting a low-grade civil war over the last few weeks, have agreed to form a unity government. I believe that in addition to their irretrievable polarization over the cravate issue, the two parties may also have some secondary disputes over the place of religion in government, and over the question of recognizing Israel.

Not sure who the guy in the background with the kaffiyeh is, but since he’s wearing a tie, it’s a safe bet the US supports him, too.
