Gergen and the Gergen-Shields era by mattsteinglass

On CNN, I see David Gergen rebuke Campbell Brown for her extremely odd claim that Palin’s speech was not aimed at the base. Gergen comes from a slightly earlier era of television journalism in which “analysts” were expected to actually say thing that congrued with and assessed reality. Brown is generally part of a more modern era in which the function of TV analysts is largely akin to that of WWF sportscasters: to hype up a pre-orchestrated freakshow into some kind of emotional narrative.
