Since everyone is acknowledging the death of Robert Novak, I might as well note that for several weeks in 1986, I unwittingly adopted the Prince of Darkness’s cat. It ran away and turned up in our yard in Chevy Chase, DC. It was large, friendly, and strangely quiet. I can’t really remember how we eventually discovered who it belonged to, but we were sad to see it go. And you know that line about how pets come to look like their owners? Weirdest thing — deep shadowed eyes, grey fur, rings on its tail…the darn thing looked almost like a raccoon.
