Dear Matt,

I am a journalist with Al Jazeera English Channel. I am exploring the possibility of doing a story on Vietnam’s current political situation and your reports have consistently been the most informative. I was wondering if I can contact you for information, as you are the expert of Vietnam.

Please advise how I may get in touch with you via email and mobile.

I look forward to your reply.

Cheers,
Eunice

Just read your NYT review (Sunday July 13) and will read the book.

I take students on study abroad to Southeast Asia (was in Saigon June 2008). I like to have a trip book(s) that everyone can read during long bus/plane/train trips and discuss. What’s the one Vietnam book that anybody traveling there must read?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Matt. After commenting on your happiness research piece, I decided to blog about it, too. You can read my post at http://self-help.thehappyguy.com/2008/07/24/happiness-research/ if you are so inclined.

Dear Matt:

Are you the same Matt Steinglass who lived in Adams House at Harvard, member of class of 91?

If so, this is Miguel Sancho — an old friend of yours from those salad days.

These days I’m a proudcer with ABC News 20/20. Just discovered your blog via a link from Andrew Sullivan. Drop me a line and lets catch up.

If not… my apologies. Good blog nonetheless.

Matt, a small group of vets (5 of us) of the 101st Airborne are returning to VN on Feb 8th,’09, making our way north from HCM City to Hue. I’ve had sporadic contact with the Veterans Association of Vietnam, trying to arrange a meeting with the guys we fought in Quang Ngai and Quang Nam Provinces in 1967. I noticed your interview with Ta Hung in an article, the same guy who is my contact at the VAV. I send stuff and there’s no response. Do you know a way to close the loop?

By the way , I like your writing.
Regards

Dear Matt

I noticed your question on Brad DeLong’s blog about Roger Farmer’s proposal for central bank targeting of stockmarkets.

There have been a number of other articles about it – Marginal Revolution’s is at http://www.marginalrevolution.com/marginalrevolution/2008/12/should-the-gove.html and Economist’s View is at http://economistsview.typepad.com/economistsview/2008/12/how-to-prevent.html

I proposed a slightly different solution, aimed at more directly stimulating investment in new equity: http://www.knowingandmaking.com/2008/12/powers-and-strategies-for-central-banks.html and http://www.knowingandmaking.com/2009/01/private-investment-by-central-banks.html

I hadn’t come across your blog before but look forward to reading more of your work.
